On March 6, 2009, a single mom was settling in for a quiet evening at home. Her two daughters, Amanda and Samantha, were with their father for the weekend, so she had the house to herself. It had been a busy week at work, and Nancy Moyer was looking forward to relaxing with a glass of wine. But that Sunday, when Bill Moyer came to her home to drop off their daughters, he found the front door open, the television on, but no Nancy. Since that day, there have been several suspects, including a convicted murderer, a suspicious co-worker, and even a man who confessed to her murder, but no arrests. 13 years later, Nancy’s daughters are still actively searching for both their mother and for justice.

Unraveling the Mystery of Rachel Good: A Cold Case of Secrets and Shadows
In the quiet town of Elkton, Virginia, October 18, 2003, marked the beginning of a mystery that has endured for nearly two decades—the disappearance of 20-year-old Rachel Good. As the night unfolded, Rachel’s seemingly ordinary life took a dark turn, revealing a clandestine relationship with a married police officer, Adam Williams, who ended up being the lead investigator on her case. This podcast episode explores the complexities of Rachel’s story, from legal troubles and a troubled family background to the shadows of a secret affair and police misconduct. Despite legal battles and the passage of time, Rachel’s family’s pursuit of truth endures, offering a glimpse into the lingering hope that justice may one day be served in this unresolved cold case.
On October 18, 2003, the small town of Elkton, Virginia, was forever marked by the disappearance of 20-year-old Rachel Nicole Good. What started as an ordinary night hanging out with friends turned into a haunting mystery that has remained unsolved for two decades. Join us as we delve into the perplexing case of Rachel Good, exploring the shadows of a secret relationship, police misconduct, and the quest for justice.
Who is Rachel Good?
Rachel’s life seemed like that of any young person in a small town—until she vanished. As a 20-year-old mother of three with legal troubles, Rachel’s story takes unexpected twists that lead to an unsolved mystery.
Unbeknownst to many, Rachel was entangled in a clandestine affair with Adam Williams, a married police officer. She was also pregnant with his child, a fact that caused a great deal of friction between the couple . According to friends, Rachel was on her way to see Adam the night of October 18 she was never seen again
The Investigation’s Troubling Beginnings
The initial days of the investigation raised eyebrows as Adam Williams, emotionally involved and potentially conflicted, took charge. Rachel’s family discovered their secret connection, prompting the case’s transfer to the Virginia State Police after four crucial days.
Rachel’s legal troubles and strained relationships painted a complex picture. Her disappearance came just before facing charges, and suspicions arose about a possible motive involving her pregnancy, financial disagreements, and threats of exposure.
A Family’s Long and Frustrating Journey
Years passed, legal battles ensued, but justice remained elusive. Grand juries, lawsuits, and a community’s search for answers revealed a narrative of secrecy, cover-ups, and a seemingly abandoned criminal case.
Despite setbacks and the passage of time, Rachel’s family holds on to hope. Recent developments in a civil case against Adam Williams suggest that, even after nearly two decades, the pursuit of truth continues.
Rachel Good’s disappearance is a haunting tale of secrecy, police misconduct, and unanswered questions. By shedding light on this cold case, we hope to keep the memory of Rachel alive and encourage renewed efforts to unravel the mystery that has haunted Elkton for nearly two decades.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Rachel Good, contact the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office at (540) 829-7400.

Mitchell Owens
On February 3, 1983, a young mother was brutally attacked by a stranger in her own home. Her three young sons were asleep in their beds, but her middle child, Mitchell, heard noises and came in to check on his mother. Ora Owens screamed at Mitchell to run away, and then everything went black. Ora awoke two days later in the hospital, only to find out that Mitchell was gone. Despite what was clearly a forcible abduction, and despite the fact that Mitchell was only four years old, Ora claims that Menlo Park Police delayed beginning an investigation into Mitchell’s disappearance, and initially classified him as a runaway. Nearly 40 years later, Ora is still trying to get justice for her son.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Mitchell Owens, please contact the Menlo Park Police Department at 650-330-6300. Tips can also be called into the Department of Public Safety at 617-754-3208 or 3209.

Rose Marie Bly
On August 21, 2009, a young mother wanted a night out. 21-year-old Rose Marie Bly had two children under the age of two. Rose stayed home with the kids while her husband, whom she had just married in February of that year, worked. Rose told her husband that she was going to go visit her cousin who lived close to their St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin home. But Rose never made it. Her case received a fair amount of local attention, but not a lot of clues, so it eventually faded from the public consciousness. That is, until 12 years later when her family was facing another tragedy: the disappearance of her niece, Summer Wells.

Summer Wells
On June 15, 2021, five-year-old Summer Wells was enjoying a beautiful day with her family. The little girl was helping her mother and grandmother plant flowers at their rural Rogersville, Tennessee home. But, like most little kids, she eventually grew tired of this activity and wanted to go back into the house and play with her toys. Her mom walked her back into the house, where her three older brothers were. Summer’s mother went back outside for just a few minutes, but when she returned home, her daughter was gone. What follows is a baffling case filled with accusations, conspiracy theories, and arrests, but no sign of Summer.

Alexis Patterson: Part 2
Alexis Patterson walked to school on May 3, 2002, but she never made it into the building. Her school didn’t notify her parents of the seven-year-old’s absence, so no one knew she was missing until school let out that afternoon. Her frantic parents, Ayanna and LaRon Bourgeois called Milwaukee Police, and a search began. But despite being only seven years old, Alexis was treated as a runaway. It would be over a week before police publicly said that they suspected foul play in her disappearance.
As the days turned into months, which turned into years, the hope of finding Alexis alive diminished for many– but not her mother. She believes that her daughter is out there somewhere. And in 2016, it seemed she was proven right, when an Ohio man came to her and said that he knew Alexis. In fact, he had been married to her.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Alexis Patterson, please call the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7401. You can also contact the Milwaukee Field Office of the FBI at 414-276-4684 or the Milwaukee Police Department Cold Case Hotline at 414-935-1212.

También puede comunicarse con la oficina local del FBI en Milwaukee al 414-276-4684 o con la línea directa de casos sin resolver del Departamento de Policía de Milwaukee al 414-935-1212.

Alexis Patterson: Part 1
You may know her as “the other missing girl.” On May 3, 2002, seven-year-old Alexis Patterson walked the half a block to Hi-Mount Elementary School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, accompanied by her step-father, LaRon Bourgeois. LaRon left Alexis at the crosswalk, as the crossing guard accompanied her across the street to school. But when the final bell rang that afternoon, Alexis Patterson wasn’t among the children to rush out of school and head home. She was never seen again. While the little girl’s disappearance was big news in Milwaukee, the news was soon overshadowed by that of another missing girl: Elizabeth Smart. Elizabeth was found nine months after her abduction, but Alexis remains missing 20 years later.

Irene Gakwa
In 2019, 29-year-old Irene Gakwa made a big move: she flew from her home in Kenya to the United States to start a new life. Irene had always loved helping people, and she was going to turn that love into a career by studying nursing. Fortunately, Irene already had a support system in the states: her two brothers, Chris and Kennedy lived in Boise, Idaho, and she was going to join them. Everything was going according to plan, and Irene even fell in love. But her family alleges that her boyfriend was no Prince Charming. They say that he was controlling and worked to isolate Irene from her family.
On February 24, 2022, Irene had a video call with her parents. She hasn’t been seen since. Did she, as her boyfriend claims, decide to pack up and move once again, or has something much worse happened to Irene?
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Irene Gakwa, or if you've seen a grey or silver Subaru Crosstrek with Idaho license plates that may have been seen trespassing on private property or in rural parts of Campbell County between February 24 and March 20, please contact the Gillette Police Department at 307-682-5155.

Bonus: Case Updates
Over three seasons of this podcast, we’ve covered over 80 unsolved missing persons cases. Some have had major breakthroughs, like the cases of missing brothers Orrin and Orson West, whose adoptive parents have been arrested for their murder, along with that of missing pregnant woman, Akia Eggleston, whose boyfriend has been arrested for both her murder and the murder of their unborn child. This week, we’re going to check in on those, along with a person of interest in Morgan Nick's 1995 disappearance, and updates from Kristin Smart's murder trial.

Leah Croucher
It’s the day after Valentine’s Day in 2019, and Leah Croucher is walking to work as usual. But the 19-year-old Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England resident never makes it to the office. At first, it looks as though it may be a stranger abduction, but as police investigate, they find that Leah had been displaying out of character behavior in the days and weeks leading up to her disappearance. Could Leah’s secrets have led to her disappearance? Three years after she was last seen, her family, investigators, and internet sleuths are all trying to figure out if Leah walked away on her own, or if she was betrayed by someone close to her.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Leah Croucher, please call 101 and ask for Thames Valley Police, quoting reference 43190049929. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their online anonymous form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Brittany Williams: Part 2
Seven-year-old Brittany Williams was last seen at a doctor’s appointment in Richmond, Virginia on August 18, 2000. The woman who had legal guardianship over her, Kim Parker, ran a foster home for children with special needs or were otherwise medically fragile. When asked where Brittany was, she said that she had given Brittany away to two women who were former volunteers at her home and now lived in California. But she didn’t have a forwarding address; she didn’t have a phone number– and nobody, including these two women, had seen Brittany. It took police nearly three years to get involved in the case of the missing little girl. It took nearly another 20 years before a woman came forward claiming that she was Brittany Williams, and she was alive.

Brittany Williams: Part 1
A little girl in Richmond, Virginia is placed into foster care. Everything seems to be going okay for a while, but eventually she stops showing up for school. Then it’s missed doctor’s appointments, followed by a missed paternity test. Then, it’s over two years since anyone has seen her. There have been several similar cases in the news lately: Oakley Carlson, whom we’ve covered here, as well as Harmony Montgomery. But this case goes even further back. Brittany Williams was a seven-year-old girl who was eventually reported missing back in 2003. But she hadn’t been seen by anyone in public since August 18, 2000. While investigators thought that Brittany had likely died, everything changed in 2021 when a woman came forward saying that she had a DNA test that proved she was Brittany Williams.

They didn’t know if she was safe; if she had harmed herself, or if someone had done something to her. As the days and weeks went on, their fear grew, and their tragedy was compounded when another member of her family emerged as the prime suspect in her disappearance.

Minisode: Lisa Jameson
On November 4, 1991, 23-year-old Lisa Jameson had a secret. Even though it was a good secret, she was still nervous about it. Lisa had just found out that she was pregnant with her second child. She was thrilled with the idea of expanding her family, but she wasn’t as sure that her husband, Alan, would share her excitement. But we don’t know if Lisa ever had the chance to find out. On that morning, she left work after a night shift, dropped off a co-worker in Chandler, Arizona, and was never seen alive again. Now, 30 years later, the son who was left behind is still searching for answers, and above all, justice for his beloved mother.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Lisa Jameson, please contact the Gilbert Police at 480-508-6500.

Billy Smolinski
When a 31-year-old man who had just broken up with his girlfriend asked a neighbor to watch his dog for a few days, no one immediately worried. But Billy Smolinski never gave his neighbor the keys to his home so he could check on his beloved dog, Harley. Billy’s family immediately knew that all of this behavior was out of character for the quiet homebody.
When they turned to the police for help, they were told the same thing that so many families of missing adults are told: "Just wait; he’ll be back." But Billy Smolinski didn’t come back. August 24, 2022 will mark 18 years since the Waterbury, Connecticut resident was last seen, and despite someone going to prison on a charge related to his disappearance, the Smolinski family is still fighting for answers and justice for Billy.
